Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

The annual Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition initiative for creative students (grades 7-12) and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers. The Art Academy of Cincinnati (AAC) is producing the Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards of Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana on our urban campus in historic Over-the-Rhine.

2024 Regional Scholastic Exhibition Information

Exhibition Dates: Friday, February 9, 2024 – Sunday, February 18, 2024

Opens: Friday, February 9, 2024 @ 5 pm

Public exhibition hours are 9am – 9pm Monday-Friday and 9am – 5pm Saturday and Sunday

What is in this Exhibition?

All art and writing submissions that received regional awards (Honorable Mention, Silver Key, and Gold Key) will be installed at the AAC by Office of Engagement staff.

  • Educators will not be allowed to install artwork. Educators may include installation instructions with their label information if necessary.
  •  If installation accommodations are needed for a self-guided installation of artwork, please proactively email engagement@artacademy.edu describing your needs and schedule time no later than noon on Friday, February 2, 2024.

Artwork Drop-off Instructions:

  • Educators should drop off all awarded artwork they want displayed in the exhibition between Thursday, February 1 (between 8am and 9pm) through Saturday, February 3, 2024 (between 9am and 12pm).
  • All physical artwork MUST be matted and ready to hang. The AAC will provide standard nails and tacks for installation but if the artwork requires anything more specific for installation, educators must provide hardware and installation instructions at drop off.
  • Video and Animation artwork should be dropped off to the AAC in a labeled flash drive. Video and Animation files must be saved in a standard format. Any program-specific or corrupted files will not be able to be displayed.
  • Digital Art must be printed, matted, and ready to hang. AAC will not accept still digital artwork via flash drive.
  • Each work of art dropped off by Educators MUST include a completed label, printed, and attached to each artwork. Access label template here
  • Artwork that does not have an accompanying label will not be displayed in the exhibition. Artworks with incomplete label information will also not be put on display.
  • All portfolios and storage bins that transport artwork for drop off must be labeled with students’ name to be returned at the end of the exhibition. Any portfolio, storage bin or other transportation method that is not labeled cannot be guaranteed to return to the owner.

Writing Drop-off Instructions:

  •  Writing works that received awards must be sent digitally via email as an attachment in PDF format to engagement@artacademy.edu using the subject line: Scholastic Writing Awards Exhibition Submission: [Student Name].
  • Inside the body of the email, Educator/Student must include corresponding label information to be included in the exhibition.
  • Writing works submitted without label information or with incomplete label information will not be put on display.
  •  Works must be submitted as an attachment in PDF format. AAC will not accept works linked to personal or school drop boxes, google drives, flash drives, or other methods of sharing documents.
  • Emails for awarded writing works are accepted from Friday, January 26 – February 3, 2024

Opening Reception Event

Friday, February 9, 2024, 5pm-8pm, Open to the Public

  • Get the first look at our region’s Scholastic Award recipients across art and writing categories! All work was created by local middle school and high school students.
  • Regional Award Packets (key pins, programs, and other student achievement acknowledgments) will be provided for each award recipient during the exhibition opening event.
  • If you and/or your students are not able to attend this event, please fill out this form to receive your awards and acknowledgements by mail or pick-up at AAC at a later date.
  •  Award packets will be available for pick-up or by mail from Tuesday, February 13 through Friday, March 1, 2024.
  • During the Opening Reception, from 6pm-7:30pm, the AAC will host a Writer’s Open Mic opportunity in the Lecture Hall for students who received awards for their writing to read their work for an audience.
  • Students wishing to participate in the Open Mic must bring their writing with them.
  • Light refreshments provided while supplies last.
  • No formal speeches given.

Field Trip Opportunities

  • Field Trips must be scheduled by appointment only through the Office of Engagement. No pop-in field trips are allowed. Please reserve your appointment by following this link here.
  • Each Field Trip group must be accompanied by a member of the AAC staff.
  • Field trips are scheduled for 1-hour appointments, and only one appointment per class due to capacity at Art Academy of Cincinnati.
  •  No lunches are to be served or coordinated at the AAC.

Artwork Pick-up

  • Artwork pick-up is available following the exhibition, starting Thursday, February 22 through Saturday, February 24, 2024.
  • Weekday Pick-up hours = 8am – 5pm
  • Weekend Pick-up hours = 9am – 12pm
  • Any artwork left at the AAC after Saturday, February 24, 2024 will be discarded.
