Teachers & Counselors

Since 1869, the Art Academy of Cincinnati has been the place in our city and the Midwest region for talented art students to further their artistic visions in the visual arts, design, and creative writing. The Art Academy has grown from our early roots as a museum school in Eden Park into the center of contemporary art and design that we are today. The Art Academy is an institution dedicated to preparing its students to be innovators in an ever-changing global landscape.

We are proud to be a cultural cornerstone in the vibrant creative community in our city and our neighborhood of Over-the-Rhine. Our location in OTR provides a kinetic backdrop and a source of constant inspiration for our students. Cincinnati houses the headquarters of some of the most respected global creative organizations and agencies. They provide opportunities just around the corner from the school, with plenty of professional and educational experience for our students.

Here are some of the ways you can get involved with the Art Academy:

  • Schedule an admissions counselor to speak to your students and/or high school academic advisor
  • Schedule a classroom or art club field trip to our campus from our Admissions or Office of Engagement teams
  • Get information on our Bachelors, Associates, or Masters programs, admissions requirements, and portfolio review process
  • Participate in professional development opportunities

Due to COVID-19, we can also set up a virtual classroom visit to comply with any limitations your school may have. Our counselors will work with you to find the best way to do this based on the equipment you have available in your classroom.

If you’re interested in any of these, please contact admissions at 513-562-6262 or

Programs

The Art Academy of Cincinnati offers three unique degree programs:

All programs focus on inquiry, exploration, and originality to help each student realize and unlock their creative potential and develop their own individual artistic vision and voice. We also offer an Arts Business Certificate Program (ABCert) that collects and synthesizes professional training to increase confidence in a student’s readiness for their career as a creative professional.

Along with all our higher education opportunities, we have several Community Education classes including a 3-week intensive Summer Portfolio Preparation program for High School students who are preparing for a college-level art program.

Accreditation

The AAC is an independent college of art and design accredited by NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design), and by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). We are a longstanding member of AICAD (Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design) and The Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Connection (GC3), and we host the Cincinnati Resource Center of the AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts).

Professional Development for Teachers

We have several opportunities for teachers to earn Professional Development Units (PDU), most of which lie in the second semester during our Senior Winter Expo in January and Senior Thesis Exhibitions from March to May. These exhibitions showcase the culmination of our seniors’ time at the Art Academy; these shows are created and curated by the seniors, gives them a chance to exhibit the ideas and concepts behind their work, and acts as an event where they can invite friends, family, and professional partners.

In order to earn PDU, we ask participating educators to submit five written responses to the work displayed for our students to use as feedback.

If you are interested in participating in one or all of these events, please contact Brevyn Fleming at (513) 562-8754 or brevyn.fleming@artacademy.edu

Teacher Party

Every year we honor our educators with a teacher party! This is a free event where teachers can come to AAC to eat, drink, and dance. We throw this party to show how much we appreciate your hard work. The admissions team will reach out to teachers directly to invite them, but please contact us if you’d like to be added to the list!
