On October 23rd, the Art Academy of Cincinnati is offering you an opportunity to transform yourself for the much ballyhooed return of the Beaux Arts Ball, a masquerade fundraiser of high art, high style and high spirits

This year’s theme, Venezia Carnevale, will recall images of the grand masked balls of Venice, Italy. The AAC Alumni Association is using the occasion to celebrate AAC’s ten-year anniversary in Over-the-Rhine and the distinguished supporters who helped make it all possible.   Honored guests are Eleanora C. U. Alms Trust, Fifth Third Bank Trustee; The Otto M. Budig Family Foundation; The Kaplan Foundation; The Manuel D. and Rhoda Mayerson Foundation; P & G; Western & Southern Financial Group; John Ruthven, Alumni; and Carl Solway.

The legendary gala, unmatched in the intrigue that surrounds it, has a storied history. The tradition of the ball dates back to early 1900s’ Paris. Inspired by the elaborate costume balls thrown the King and Queen of France in the seventh century, students of the National School of Fine Arts threw their first ball. It was here the salacious shindig became infamous, in part, for the outrageous costumes the attendees’ wore, and in some cases, the total lack thereof. Distinguished alumni brought the party with them to New York and over the decades schools of art, design and architecture across the U.S. have adopted the tradition as their own.

For decades, AAC has carried on the tradition as well. The riotous revelry has been revived many times throughout the history of the event in Cincinnati. The ball was hosted at AAC’s Mt. Adam’s home, the Cincinnati Art Museum; in its OTR home on Jackson Street, and this year it will be at the Verdin Bell Event Centre in Pendelton.

Sponsors for Venezia Carnevale, the 2015 masquerade Beaux Arts Ball, are Hubbell Trust, The Otto M. Budig Family Foundation, Chavez Properties, Miller Valentine Group, Brian L. Tiffany & Company, The Manuel D. & Rhoda Mayerson Foundation, The Kaplan Foundation and John Isidore and Sandy Kaltman.
