In this course, students will design as well as construct their own clothing! Students will learn about materials, patterns, and how to properly use a sewing machine as well as sew by hand. This course teaches lifelong sewing skills and good craftsmanship, fosters independence, and encourages expression of individuality through fashion.
This course is for adults and teens of all skill levels. Students between the age of 13 and 17 must be registered to take the course with a parent or guardian and must be accompanied by the parent or guardian at each session. The guardian must also sign a Blanket Authorization Form. This will be sent in an email a week before the course begins and must be completed before the first session.
Required Materials: A sewing kit and any notions (zippers, buttons, or hook and eyes) you may need. You will likely also need to bring in fabric. The AAC has fabric available for the class, but we might not have your exact preference or required quantity available. Sewing machines and thread are provided, but if you’d prefer, you can bring in your own sewing machine for class sessions. You do not have to purchase the exact product nor from the same site in the linked examples. The Art Academy of Cincinnati is not sponsored by Amazon.
