In this course, students will learn how clothing should fit and how to practice good craftsmanship before constructing and tailoring their own clothing by machine and by hand. Students will learn about various materials and how to properly use a sewing machine and patterns. This course teaches lifelong sewing skills, advances independence, and encourages expression of individuality through fashion. Students will make clothing they can take home and wear.
This course is for adults and teens. Students ages 13-17 must be registered to take the course with a parent or guardian and must be accompanied by the parent or guardian at each session. The student and guardian must also sign a Blanket Authorization Form. You can fill out the form by clicking here. This will also be sent in an email a week before the course begins and must be completed before the first session.
Required Materials: Sewing needles, a seem ripper, a thimble, and straight pins. You may consider purchasing a sewing kit that contains all these items. You will also need to bring in fabric of your choice for the second class session. Sewing machines and thread are provided, but if you’d prefer, you can bring in your own sewing machine for class sessions.
