In this course, students will explore experimental methods and tools of storytelling in videography and sound while also learning how to use necessary equipment and editing programs. Students will study successful cinema before developing their own vision and style. They will conceptualize an idea for a video and bring it to fruition after learning about camera angles, color palette, shot pacing, shape, and many other important visual storytelling tools. Students in this class will then film and edit their short videos before adding sound to magnify their visual story.
This course is for students of all skill levels ages 13 to 18. Guardians must sign a Blanket Authorization Form on behalf of students under the age of 18. This will be sent in an email a week before the course begins and must be completed before the first session.
Required Materials: A journal, a writing utensil of your choice, and a flash drive (at least 32 gigabytes). Computers and camera equipment will be provided. If you would like to bring your own camera or smart phone, you are welcome to do so. This option allows students to film outside of the class sessions if they choose. Filming options can be discussed with the instructor during the first class session.
