In this course, students will make accessories that are both functional and aesthetic. Students might choose to make a scarf, hat, bag, or a similar type of accessory. The class will learn crochet stitch knowledge including slip knots, chaining, turning, and color changing as well as single, double, and triple crochet stitches. By the end of this course, students will have crafted their crocheted pieces in a supportive environment and will have also gained the skills and confidence to continue their practice afterwards.
This course is for students of all skill levels ages 13 to 18. Guardians must sign a Blanket Authorization Form on behalf of students under the age of 18. This will be sent in an email a week before the course begins and must be completed before the first session.
Required Materials: Several yarn skeins of your choice. Beginners should avoid dark-colored yarn such as black or dark purples, chenille yarn, and blanket yarn. Natural- and synthetic-fiber yarn between medium and bulky weight is recommended; however, the vision for your project may require a different type of yarn. Here is a guide to yarn type and here is a website that offers affordable yarn. You do not have to purchase from the same site in the linked example. The Art Academy of Cincinnati is not sponsored by Hobbii. Crochet hooks are provided.
