Learn how to build garments from the ground up. Students will study pattern cutting, hand and machine sewing, and the fundamentals of fit and structure. This course focuses on creating clothing that can be worn on a daily basis such as shirts, pants, casual dresses, etc. This class encourages creative problem solving and thoughtful craftsmanship for anyone interested in fashion, design, sustainability, and developing life skills.
Required Materials: A sewing kit, a sketchbook, a pencil, and any notions (zippers, buttons, or hook and eyes) you may need. You will likely also need to bring in fabric after the first class session. Sewing machines and thread are provided, but if you’d prefer, you can bring in your own sewing machine for class sessions. You do not have to purchase the exact product nor from the same site in the linked example.
