This course explores painting as a living language. Students will experiment with composition, color, and gesture while studying artists who have reshaped the field of painting. Weekly prompts and open studio sessions encourage discovery and experimentation with different materials and surfaces. Through group conversations and critique, participants learn to connect visual choices to meaning. The course is open to painters at any level who want to expand their ideas and develop a personal approach to painting.
Required Materials: Canvas (which you can bring in after discussion with the instructor in your first class session), oil paint set, odorless mineral spirits, acrylic paint set, paintbrushes, and a glass palette (you can alternatively bring a glass pane from a photo frame). Other materials will be provided. You do not need to purchase the exact examples linked, but they are good quality suggestions.
