The Art Academy of Cincinnati’s Exhibition Studio Class is proud to present “Vessels,” a popup exhibition hosted by the Contemporary Arts Center and created in response to their current Swoon survey show “The Canyon: 1999—2017.”
AAC’s Exhibition Studio is a studio art class in which students develop a body of work to be displayed in a series of popup exhibitions around the Greater Cincinnati area. “Vessels” represents the culmination of Fall semester for the class, and will be displayed in and around the downstairs Black Box theater space at the Contemporary Arts Center. Eighteen students were asked to create an artwork in response to the Swoon survey exhibition “The Canyon,” a sprawling mid-career survey of the work of Caledonia Curry (better known as Swoon) which is on display upstairs. The resulting exhibition offers a wide variety of media and modes of working—from sculpture to painting to performance—and represents a group of individual artists brought together by a common theme: a dialogue with the work of one artist, who in her own work often seeks to create “vessels of empathy,” and bring people closer together.
