About the exhibition:The Art Academy of Cincinnati will be over 150 years old in 2021, Minumental has been an annual exhibit since 1987. It has become the college’s most well-attended show. This will be the first time Minumental has been both online and in-person, due to the tumultuous impact of COVID-19. The Art Academy of Cincinnati plans to ‘Regenerate’ this popular show in a safe socially distanced way. As we seek to restore ourselves to a better state after 2020, we Regenerate, restore, and move forward.
“In the mid-1980’s, the first Minumental Exhibition was held at the Art Academy’s Mt. Adams campus. It grew out of a classroom assignment. The goal was to engage students, have a little fun, and generate some income for students”, explains Gary Gaffney, the originator of this unique art exhibition and sale.
In the first exhibit, there were 35 entries, now there are nearly a thousand created by students, faculty, staff, and alumni. More than $10,000 have been sold to the public. Proceeds from the exhibition go to support the Art Academy Alumni Scholarship Fund for deserving undergraduate students.
“I love this exhibition. It’s fun and a great opportunity to start an art collection. Whether you’ve attended many times or have never experienced it at all, I hope everyone will come this year and be part of our 31st celebration!” Gaffney says with a smile.
