A collage created by Anna Sands.

The Art Academy of Cincinnati is pleased to present HEAVY HEAVY, NO MISTAKES, an exhibition of recent works by AAC alum Anna Christine Sands. Please join us for a reception on Final Friday, September 24th, from 5 to 8pm.

About the exhibition:

HEAVY HEAVY, NO MISTAKES examines the absence we might feel in our own lives, by referencing the checkerboard pattern that occurs in Photoshop when something is erased from the bottom layer. This erasure is an act of control and violence, and also creates a noticeable, glaring void. However, this void is simultaneously real, imagined, and metaphorical. By using this vernacular of Photoshop tools within archived family photos, Sands reconciles her lived experiences with the machines that she understands her world through.

About the artist:

Anna Christine Sands was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in the American Midwest. Born in 1993, she grew up in a world never not knowing what the Internet and personal computing were. This connection to cyberspace eventually deepened and was compressed into a studio practice examining art in the post-PC world. She attended the Art Academy of Cincinnati and was awarded a BFA in Photography in 2016. She graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a Master of Fine Arts focusing in Art and Technology Studies in May of 2021. Her work has been a part of festivals such as Ars Electronica, The Wrong Biennial and the Miami New Media Festival. She has also twice participated in the world’s longest-running annual glitch art exhibition, /’fu:bar/.
