SOS (Save Our Souls) ART, founded in 2003, is an organization that promotes the use of art towards peace and justice. One of Its activities consists of the yearly SOS ART Show and Event of creative expressions for peace and justice. An open forum to all greater Cincinnati artists, the yearly show and event serve as a platform for local artists to express through their art their sociopolitical views pertaining to peace and justice; to reflect on local, national and international issues; to create a dialogue between themselves and the viewers; to educate; to break their isolation and forge a community; to sharpen and strengthen their own voices.
This year’s SOS Art show and event will take place, for the 14th consecutive year, at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, from May 27 until june 5. The opening will be on Friday May 27 from 6 pm until midnight. The show will close on Sunday June 5 at 6pm.
The visual art component will consist of a 2 and 3 dimensional group art show, where the voice of every local artist, through the artwork submitted will be included and heard. Also included will be works generated by special collaborative groups and by school children who would have worked with their art teachers during the year on the themes of peace and justice. The art event will consist of music, poetry reading, panel discussions and debates, movies, and performances, all related to peace and justice.
