Spring Break, Part 1/2: Ireland

We (Schweebs and myself) landed in Dublin on the 5th, and were SO tired, that we didn’t do much the first day but walk around and enjoy the city.  We actually met some cool people at the hostel, and they insisted we go “out on the town”, so we did, and we had a blast! (I’ll spare you the incriminating photos)  The next day, though, we went to Kilmainham Gaol (that’s “jail”) and heard the saddest 200 years of history there’s ever been.  Through politics and failing revolts, many people were incarcerated (including thousands of children!) and executed.  After that depressing visit, we walked back to the city center and took great photos of the river.  Apparently there’s a bridge called the “Ha’Penny Bridge”, because back in the day, people had to pay a toll of a penny and a half to cross.

Crappy picture of inside the jail...I'm sorry :(

Yesterday (my birthday, might I add!) Kayla and I did some more walking around, and then we took the streetcar or “tram” up the the Modern Art Museum.  Sadly, it was closed.  We got over that, though and walked instead to St. Stephen’s Green Park.  It was GORGEOUS!  There were birds (duh) and two ponds in the middle of the green.  The gazebos were very picturesque, and so of course, with all of this beauty around me, my camera decided to run out of battery.  Thankfully, I had just enough juice to squeeze out some good photos.

Finally, today I went (sans Schweebs who, if you didn’t know, is also Kayla) on a bus tour of Connemara, Ireland.  It’s one of those countryside places that really makes you re-think your decision to NOT be a shepherd.  Frankly, I’m all for it.  Although the sites weren’t as lavish as they would have been in warmer weather, they were still a sight for sore eyes.  I woke up at 3am to catch a bus to Galway, Ireland where the tour started, and let me tell you, it was worth every waking hour.  The only thing I missed out on was being able to take photos of the sunset on the landscapes; they would have translated into amazing paintings.  As it is, I’m planning on making one more stop in Dublin before we leave tomorrow morning.  I’m aiming to visit Phoenix Park, which apparently has deer and swans roaming loose.  But below are a few photos from Connemara (sorry if the colors are off. My camera puts a blue filter on things, sometimes, so I tried to take if off, but the computer I’m using has warped colors, too.)
