”I am still learning”

OK, the first session of our Friday’s Figure drawing is done. There were only three of us ( which is sad!) plus Conni McClure ( which is awesome) . The class was Fantastic. We got a great model ( one of the best I have ever seen) and spent all the 3 hours to draw. I am going to bring my stuffs the next week into the class to start making a sculpture based on the long pose of the model. The class is divided into two parts. In first round, we just make some fast sketches – each 2-5 min – and in the next round we have long pose and can work on a detailed drawing, painting or as I want to do, a sculpture. To be honest, I expected to see more students there. Believe me, it’s so much better than playing a …..video game!Anyway……it is non of my business! :)

Since I mentioned the name of Ms. McClure I want to say something about her here. This woman really inspires me. As you probably know, she teaches drawing, painting, fresco at the AAC and is one of the best. I have seen her sketch book and some of her paintings and frescos……oh my god ……unbelievable artworks! I couldn’t catch my eyes from her drawings in the sketchbook! perfect drawings with powerful lines. I wish I could draw like her. In addition to her undeniable artistic skills, she has very great characteristics which is why she inspires me a lot. Can you guess what are they?…….O yeah…..she is always learning. Not just about art, about everything!( In terms of art, I probably don’t know what I am talking about! I mean what els she is supposed to learn? She knows everything about painting and drawing!). I remember the first day I saw her studio in AAC, there was a small piece of paper whit this statement on it ” I am still learning”. In that day I did not understand what it really means, it just reminded me a story about Ingres – the french neo classic painter, century 19th- I hope you know that story because I am not going to tell you that story now! ha ha ha ……

Coming back to my main point about Conni McClure, I think this is the biggest thing that I have learned from her. I hope Conni never read this blog because actually I am backbiting about her ( in positive way of curse! and you are not going to tell her about what I have wrote, especially you Joe! :) ) ). The first day I meet her, I tough she is an AAC student here! I was in computer lab while I saw her for the first time. There is two reasons why I tough that way. The first reason : I am stupid! :) ) the second reason: She acted – and always acts – so modestly. I mean she is not like the majority of teachers and professors in colleges or universities. You know what I mean, don’t you? I do not mean there is something wrong with the other teachers who acts differently, but the way Conni does is the best! She just smiled and said a friendly hello to me. I just tough that she can not be a teacher because they do not usually do the same thing! OK, it seems that I can not tell what I really feel about her! let me try this one: I have tones of respects to Conni McClure just because the things make her different from others which are great knowledge, understanding, talent and skills of art and being terribly modest and friendly! We are so lucky to have her here at AAC.
