Classes got out for the long weekend on Thursday around 6:20 for me. Last minute my friend and roommate LaRae’ Fischer and I decided to go to my hometown, Birmingham, Alabama to see my family who I haven’t seen in a good while. Leaving the apartment in Over The Rhine around 9 at night put us to arrive at Birmingham around 3 o’clock in the morning. Fun part however was not telling my parents that I was going to get there at 3 in the morning. So pulling up to the house I surprised my parents with an early morning visit and soon after went to bed.
The next day had an early morning breakfast and decided to go see my high school art teacher, Mrs. Veronica Wheeler, and show her some work that I have been working on recently. After that went to my old job and grabbed some smoothies for both LaRae’ and I. Deciding after downing the smoothies, LaRae’ and I went to the Birmingham Art Museum where they were having an exhibition of Kimonos from the Art Deco and Modernist ages of Art History. To be quite honest i was generally disappointed in the museum visit. Maybe it’s because I have been spoiled by the Cincinnati Art Museum and Contemporary Art Museum in Cincinnati for the past year. Once done at the art museum I took LaRae’ to one of my favorite places to eat in Birmingham, Rojo. It’s a little patio bar/ Latin-American restaurant that has some of the most amazing vegetarian burritos I have ever had! Once there, one of my friends that I went to high school with was able to make it out to Rojo and have lunch with us and share some stories of her past year at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. After a wonderful lunch LaRae’ and I headed back to the house to crash out on the couches because we were straight up exhausted.
After a great nap we ended up deciding to go for a swim in a lake and then go and meet my parents for some more Mexican food. After that came back home and crashed out once again but not for too long… I ended up waking up at around 4 oclock in order to do a hike up to the highest point in Jefferson County so I could see the sunrise over the horizon and get some photos. If only this would allow me to upload pictures I would share… maybe work on getting a flickr account or something and just posting links to share some of my work with the people reading this… Hope you have a great day because I’m thinking I will because it’s already started off great!
