Art History

diane smith“I have meaningful work—now that is unique. I’m enthusiastic about teaching; I respect my students and am committed to their education. I use contemporary teaching methods and contemporary content from many different areas.”
Diane K. Smith, faculty

Students in the Art History program gain an introductory knowledge of the roles, functions, theories, and practices of museums. They explore current and emerging ideas in the field while developing their individual vision and voice in the context of a strong studio experience. This combination prepares them to make a unique contribution in the field.

diane smith"A key feature of my teaching of art history is promoting student participation through discussion. A class with an emphasis on active student involvement results in greater learning and a more dynamic experience.”
Jay Zumeta, faculty

The Art History program taps the rich resources in the region (such as the Cincinnati Art Museum, Taft Museum, and Contemporary Art Center) to prepare students for work. Students graduating from AAC in Art History often go on to become professors and scholars, museum registrars or cataloguers, gallery owners, curators, preservationists, art critics, appraisers, or art librarians.
