Outreach Program

A Visual Art Outreach begins when an Art Academy artist/instructor
contacts the classroom teacher to find out what the teacher wants
the lesson to explore, the goals for the lesson, what skills the
students are working on or want to work on, the curriculum to be
covered, and the standards to be met. The Art Academy artist/instructor
then researches, plans and writes the lesson and prepares the
materials. In the classroom the artist/instructor gives each student
their own sketchbook and supplies to accomplish the projects
involved in the lesson. They also provide the teacher with their
lesson and research and suggestions for follow-up or
related projects.

Positive response to this program has been overwhelming. One
teacher commented: “engaging 6 year olds in 3 hours of creative
work aligned to promotion standards and stretching their
imaginations and creativity. They learned new skills not previously
attempted. They also used materials in new ways.”
